We're home, we're home, we're home!!!  We didn't mean to wait a week to write, but the youngest member of our household seems to be boss of our schedule now.  A little summary of our trip home:

 - 6 1/2 hour flight from Almaty, Kaz to Frankfurt, Germany

- 5 hour layover in Frankfurt

- 8 1/2 hour flight to Philadelphia.  Upon arrival, we found out our flight to Denver was canceled.  Fortunately, we were able to get on another flight.

- 3 hour layover in Philly

- 4 hour flight to Denver

- 2 very happy grandparents met their new grandson for the first time at the airport!

It was a bloody long trip and we didn't sleep the night before, but I think we functioned on adrenaline because we were so excited to get home.  Sam actually did better on the long flights than we did!  We are ever surprised and thankful for his patient and willing spirit.  He is a trooper and seems to face new experiences head on.

Two extremely excited pooches were waiting to greet us at our house.  We were a bit nervous as to how Sam would react to our dogs and vice versa, but he wasn't afraid at all.  Once the dogs realized that no, Sam isn't a chew toy, and yes, we are keeping him, they've been like little mothers to him.   They like to lay quietly near him as he plays on the floor and when he cries they check on him.  If only they could learn how to change diapers....

We don't remember there being a time when being "home" felt so good.  Even though we were gone for just a month, it felt like ages since we'd slept in our own bed and just enjoyed the comfort of being in our own four walls.   It has been interesting trying to get Sam to make the 13 hour transition to Mountain Standard Time.  Because he finds such delight and wonder in his new world, he doesn't seem to want to miss anything because of a silly nap.   He's hysterical... one minute he'll be yawning and rubbing his eyes and the next he'll be bouncing up and down and yelling, trying to will himself to stay awake.

Sam had his first doctor's visit and we're pleased to announce that he's healthy as a horse (probably because he ate a few of them).  He is also in the 90th percentile in height for his age.  Our pediatrician remarked that he must have been well taken care of in his former home.  Indeed he was and we are so thankful for that.

Our trip was an extraordinary adventure and now our little family is happy to get back to the day-to-day routine.  We're enjoying the beautiful, simple things life has to offer like new foods for Sam ( and the faces he makes!) and the freezer full of food that our friends filled for us.  Sunshiny walks through the autumn trees.  Visits to Grandma and Grandpa's house.  Spending time with friends.  Good coffee.  Dr. Pepper.  Sam's loud smile. Experiencing the world through the eyes of a child.

This is our last entry in Sam's journal and we want to thank you for being a part of our journey.  We'll post new photos and updates from time to time, so please keep in touch.

Stay tuned for our next saga "The Search for  Sam's Sister" ...coming soon...
